Obituaries


CHARLES BARANCIK, 91 and MARGERY BARANCIK, 83, of Sarasota, died Dec. 18 and 19. They were residents of Sarasota and Northbrook, IL. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lisa Barancik, and Scott and Rebecca Barancik, daughter Wendy Barancik; Charles sister Shirley, two brothers and sistersin law, Richard and Claire and Maury and Maija; and four grandchildren. DR. FRIEDA FELDMAN, 93, died Jan. 12. Born in New York, she moved to Florida from New York. Survivors include her husband Rubem Pochaczevsky and son Alan Summers-Powell. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Clearwater Chapel)

JEFFREY FISCHBACH, 54, of Port Richey, died Dec. 29. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Port Richey in 1986. He built a successful businesses using his experience and love of remanufacturing and distributing auto parts. Survivors include his two daughters Monique and Racquel; his mother, Helene; sister Donna Fischbach-Werner; brother John; and two grandchildren. (Dobies Funeral Home)

ZENA M. SULKES FREEMAN, 80, of Winter Park, died Dec. 22. Born in Detroit, she was a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned her doctoral degree in education from the University of South Florida. She served as head of school of the Jewish Academy of Orlando and director of education at Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater. She was a leader within Congregation of Reform Judaism in Orlando. Survivors include her husband Daniel Freeman; sons Scott (Marc Ginsberg) and Neil; Dan’s children, Wendy (Gerard) Bradford and Scott Freeman; and four grandchildren. DOROTHY M. GOLDBLATT, 93, of St. Petersburg, died Dec. 30. Born in Brooklyn, she graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, where she was voted the prettiest girl in her class and was known for dancing at her high school prom with singer Vic Damone. She and her late husband Maury moved to St. Petersburg from Roslyn, Long Island, in 1955 bringing their business, Guild Industries, and many family members and employees with them. The business later became known as Crest Cabinet Mfg. Corp. A longtime member of Congregation B’nai Israel, she was a past president and board member of its Sisterhood. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah, a volunteer at Menorah Manor and PARC and a member of The Technion. She and her late husband were honored twice by Israel Bonds and they also belonged to APAI, American Parents of American Israelis. She participated in musicals the synagogue performed and also enjoyed tennis, bowling leagues and playing mah jongg with the same group of women for over 50 years. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law; Jayne and Ronnie Weissman, Fran and Raffie Bonhardy, and Ilene Goldblatt; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. LORRAINE R. GOLDSMITH, 94, of St. Petersburg, died Nov. 6. Born in Flushing, NY, she moved to St. Petersburg in the mid-1950s. Survivors include her children, Lenore Goldsmith; Janice and Ed Murphy; Glen and Rita Goldsmith; four grandchildren and three great-grandsons. The family suggests memorials be made to favorite support group.

EDWARD M. LIEBER, 87, of Hendersonville, NC, and formerly of Clearwater, died Jan. 6. Prior to moving to Hendersonville, he had lived in Clearwater for eight years. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he owned three Stride- Rite shoe stores in Worcester, MA. He loved all cars and especially enjoyed his 1929 Model A Ford. Survivors include his wife of 23 years Vicky; four children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JAY ALLEN NORTH, 83, of Largo, died Jan. 6. He was a graduate of Capital University, Columbus, OH with an MBA. A chemical engineer, he was president of Hooven-Allison Manufacturing Company in Ohio. He moved to Florida where he became a state of Florida supervisor for small businesses. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Alison; sons Alex (Molly) North, and Andy North; stepsons Scott Bellack (Barbara), Larry Bellack (Judy), Harold Bellack (Mary); brothers, Rick North, Doug North; sister Mary Beth North; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. SANDRA ROSTIG-MELTON, 75, of Clearwater, died Dec. 26. She was in sales management with her own company and traveled extensively for other companies. Survivors include her husband Marty; sister and brother-in-law Michelle and Howard. (Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home)

IRIS DEBORAH “DEBBIE” ROTH, 74, died Dec. 18. Born in Brooklyn, she graduated from Tilden High School in Brooklyn and worked in banking for the states of Florida and Texas until she retired in 2011. Survivors include her husband of 54 years Philip; three sons, Jeffrey, Michael, and Richard; three daughters-in-law, Annette, Monica, and Tracey; and six grandchildren. MARK WOLFSON, 71, of Sarasota, died Jan. 9. Born in Omaha, NE, he lived in St. Petersburg prior to moving to Sarasota. He attended Temple Beth-EL and was the owner of an auto salvage company.
