Federation fosters professional connections

A doctor, a lawyer, and a financial analyst walk into the Jewish Federation. Guess what happens?

They meet and make connections with other like-minded individuals in their respective fields, develop long lasting relationships and friendships, and work together to help the Federation achieve its mission of ensuring the continuity of Jewish life and culture locally, in Israel, and around the world.

Our Jewish Federation is proud to be reviving the affinity groups of Maimonides Society, Cardozo Society, and Montefiore Society. Once again medical professionals, legal professionals, and professionals in the realm of finance will be invited to band together for the good of our Jewish community.

Maimonides Society

The Maimonides Society is named for Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, also known as Maimonides or Rambam, perhaps the most famous Jewish physician of all time. The Jewish Federation of Florida’s Gulf Coast Maimonides Society is the place for physicians, dentists, nurses and other healthcare professionals – people dedicated to healing the sick and committed to the notion of tikkun olam (repairing the world).

It is our hope that this dynamic group participates in a wide range of activities, including networking and socializing, educational opportunities, volunteerism and Jewish communal involvement. We also hope to offer cooperative medical and health programs with Israeli professionals, and philanthropic projects with Jewish and other communities around the globe.

The Maimonides Society takes great pride in the many contributions of our community’s healthcare professionals, whose skill and compassion do so much to care for those in need. We are proud to recognize the dedication of those who contribute gifts of $1,000 or more to the Annual Campaign of the Jewish Federation of Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Cardozo Society

Benjamin Nathan Cardozo was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Born in New York City, Cardozo passed the bar in 1891 after attending Columbia Law School.

The Cardozo Society welcomes Jewish attorneys, judges, law professionals and law students living in Florida’s Gulf Coast who donate a minimum of $1,000 annually and aim to celebrate the legal profession’s commitment to the principles of the Federation. The society sponsors programs that integrate Jewish and legal concerns and provides leadership and social networking opportunities.

Montefiore Society

The goal of establishing the Montefiore Society is to develop a sense of camaraderie among Jewish accountants, stock brokers, bankers, financial planners and advisers, insurance brokers, investment consultants, wealth management advisers and others in financial services across Florida’s Gulf Coast. They do this through education and leadership while working together to enhance the quality of Jewish life in our local community, nation and across the globe.

The society is named for Italian-born businessman Sir Moses Chaim Montefiore who lived in Italy and England from 1784 to 1885. Montefiore was well known for his philanthropy and support of Jewish rights. As with Maimonides Society and Cardozo Society, annual gifts of $1,000 or more will be recognized by our Federation.

This is an exciting time for the Federation. We are reaching out to our constituents with the hopes of getting everyone involved. We all have something to offer our community and are searching for ways to engage. If you are interested in learning more about these groups and how to get involved, please reach out to me. It would be my pleasure to guide you on your Jewish journey and help our Jewish community at the same time.

Please feel free to reach out to me at the Federation office, on social media, or email – mkaufman@jewishgulfcoast.org.
