Temple Ahavat Shalom Palm Harbor

Holiday dinner: The temple’s social action committee will cook and serve holiday dinners at The Haven of Religious Community Services (RCS) and RCS Grace House on Thursday, Dec. 20. Holiday gifts will be provided for all of the children. Call the temple for more information at (727) 785-8811.

Introduction to Judaism: Rabbi Gary Klein is continuing this 12-week course in his study. This is a course of special interest to people consider- ing adopting Judaism, spouses or significant others of Jewish people and for Jews wishing to review some of the basic teachings of Judaism. The course is open to everyone with no fee for temple members; $100 for non-members. The next classes are on Sundays, Dec. 9 and 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Lunch and learn: A Torah study class led by Susan Segal meets on Thursday, Dec. 20 from noon to 1:15 p.m. Bring your lunch and opinions. No prior knowledge or attendance is required. The study session uses the book The Torah: A Woman’s Commentary.

Book club: The temple’s book club will meet Sunday, Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the temple library. A bagel breakfast will be served, then the group will discuss two novels by the recently deceased Jewish-American author, Philip Roth. The alternative American history novel The Plot Against America and his Pulitzer Prize winning novel, American Pastoral will both be discussed. There are several copies of both books in the Pinellas County Public Library. The Book Club is sponsored by the temple Brotherhood and everyone is welcome.
