Global Day of Jewish Learning for all ages Nov. 11

On Sunday, Nov. 11 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Petersburg is teaming up with the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties and PJ Library for the Global Day of Jewish Learning.

There will be 500 communities in 40 different countries around the world participating in this project on the same day. This year’s curriculum theme is “Extraordinary Passages,” our collective journey as a people.

“To come together and learn as a community regardless of affiliation or level of observance is a beautiful thing. We look forward to seeing many of our members, as well as anyone else who has the desire to learn together with us,” said Maureen Sechan, director of Life Long Learning at Congregation B’nai Israel.

Running concurrently with the adult learning will be the PJ Library program, specifically geared for children under 8 years of age. There will be storytelling, snacks, music, and a craft for the young ones.

Alex Sembler, young family engagement specialist for the Jewish Federation, said, “The idea that all over the world Jews are learning together at the same time, the same curriculum, is very exciting. I love PJ Library programs because they teach us so many life lessons and we can learn together about the holidays, traditions, values, and Israel through music books, and crafts.”

The adult learning session will be facilitated by Sechan and Rabbi Phillip Weintraub. There is no charge for the event. Light refreshments will be served.

The Global Day of Jewish Learning is a project of the Aleph Society which supports the work of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz around the globe to make Jewish knowledge accessible to all Jews: “Let My People Know.” Rabbi Steinsaltz has completed the only contemporary translation of the Talmud.
