To Helene and Barry Debowsky for their 50th anniversary on April 27. The couple moved to Largo in 1976 and have been members of Temple B’nai Israel since then. Helene has been active in the sisterhood and the Hadassah St. Petersburg board and Barry volunteers at the Clearwater Free Clinic. They have two married sons and four grandchildren (in Miami and Atlanta). There will be a celebration May 5 as friends and family join them at Bellissimo Banquet Hall.

Simcha in Japan

The Shapiro family recently participated in a wonderful simcha – an international Seder. Parents Risa and Alan Shapiro from Indian Rocks Beach flew to Japan to get in a visit with their son, Evan, a University of Florida student who is spending his last year of studying international relations in Japan. Their daughter, Rachel, who lives in Brooklyn, joined them for the trip and all were invited to a Chabad Seder just outside of Osaka. There were more than 200 guests, many of them travelers looking to connect with other Jewish people for the holiday. “It was such a joy hearing all the familiar prayers and songs being chanted by Jewish people from all over the world. We are grateful to Chabad for holding such a wonderful event,” Risa Shapiro said.

P.S. As always, I’m looking forward to hearing about all your family simchas. Photos are welcome, too. Send information to: Sincerely Yours, P.O. Box 6970, Clearwater, FL 33758, or e-mail jewishpress@aol.com.
