A Jewish Community Camp counselor and campers riding the Sea Screamer, one of the field trips offered in 2017. Whether your kids like manatees or dinosaurs, are ready for a challenge or prefer floating along in an inner tube, the Jewish Community Camp in Pinellas County has a full summer of field trip adventures planned.

As in the camp’s inaugural summer, campers will spend every Wednesday embarking on adventures that connect them with nature, fun and the community.

The first session of the Jewish Community Camp will be held between June 4 and June 22, and will include field trips to Homosassa State Park, the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, the Clearwater Pirate Ship, and the Seabird Sanctuary. These field trips will have campers going on boat rides, watching alligators, manatees and the infamous Lu the hippo being fed, mustering their courage on a high ropes course, visiting a planetarium, and caring for recovering coast animals.

The second session of the camp will be held between June 25 and July 13 and will include field trips to Horsepower for Kids and Splash Harbour. Horsepower for Kids is an animal sanctuary that will let campers learn to ride horses and also offers hay rides and a petting farm. Splash Harbour offers campers a place to try waterslides, a lazy river, and enjoy a luau. The third field trip during session two is under development.

The third session of camp will be held between July 16 and Aug. 3 and will incorporate field trips to see the Tampa Bay Rays play the New York Yankees, as well as visit Dinosaur World to dig for fossils, Tarpon Springs Aquarium and boat ride to Anclote Island.

In addition to the regularly scheduled field trips, campers will visit the nearby Highland Recreation Center two or three times per week for swim and waterslide fun. Onsite the camp will again have a rock wall for all weeks of camp, and special camp enrichment sessions will include movement, krav maga, cooking and art.

The Jewish Community Camp is a project of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties and is housed in facilities at Temple B’nai Israel, 1685 S. Belcher Road in Clearwater. The camp is a values-based summer program that is open to all, and centers on themes of community service and character-building.

The camp will offer transportation to and from camp with pick-up locations in St. Petersburg and Palm Harbor for a fee.

For full information, including fees, and ongoing updates to the activity schedule, visit www.jewishcommunitycamp.org or call (727) 530-3223. Information about scholarship applications is available on the Federation website.
