April 15: We’re going to party like it’s 1948

With this year marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel, the Jewish community of Pinellas and Paso Counties will gather to celebrate Israel Independence Day on Sunday, April 15.

Hosted by the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties, the free celebration will be held at the Creative Pinellas/Pinewood Cultural Center, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo, from 1 to 4 p.m.

There will be something for everyone, especially all those who love the Jewish state.

For adults, a lecture series is being developed featuring local authors and educators. The photography work of Israeli photographer, Erez Kaganovitz, will be on display with the exhibit entitled “Humans of Tel Aviv.”

For younger people, an archeological dig, crafts, a sing-a-long and bounce houses will be offered. For all ages, there will be Krav Maga self defense demonstrations, Israeli dancing and Israeli and traditional Jewish food.

“A committee of individuals representing synagogues and agencies has worked to create a day of fun and celebration for everyone,” said Federation’s Director of Arts, Culture, and Education Maxine Kaufman. “This is a very special year for Israel, and we’re bringing together the entire community in recognition of this big event!”

The venue will offer both indoor and outdoor space for the festival’s activities.

The event is being sponsored by the Florida Arts and Culture Division.

More information about the Israel Independence Day celebration can be found on the Federation’s website, or by calling (727) 530-3223.
