Vice admiral to speak on national security, Special Operations

Three-Star Vice Adm. Sean Pybus, the former Deputy Commander of Special Operations Command at Mac- Dill Air Force Base in Tampa, will give a presentation on “Today’s U.S. Special Operations Forces and our National Security Challenges” on Thursday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 W. Swann Ave., Tampa.

Sponsored by the temple’s Brotherhood, the presentation is free and open to the public but attendance requires an RSVP.

Pybus retired last November as the highest-ranking Navy SEAL in the military at that time. He has participated in special operations in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia. His decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal (three awards), Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards).

Last month’s loss of two Special Ops Rangers in Afghanistan is also a reminder that American soldiers remain engaged on national security matters well beyond Syria and Iraq. Questions Pybus is expected to address: Does US Special Operations Forces have a role to play in the North Korea crisis? What about Russian and Chinese aggression?

The presentation will be followed by a dessert reception. RSVP or email
