Interest-free college loans available

Applications for interest-free loans from the Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF) for higher education (college, graduate school and vocational programs) are available from March 1 to April 30 to Jewish students in the Gulf Coast area for the 2017-2018 school year, in partnership with Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services.

JELF grants need-based, “last dollar” financing, meaning that JELF provides the final dollars that bridge the gap between a student’s total financial resources and the cost of attending school.

To qualify, applicants must be:

• Enrolled full-time in a program leading to a degree or certificate at an accredited U.S. institution

• A U.S. citizen or have lawful immigration status, and

• Able to demonstrate financial need (2017 FAFSA application required)

In 2016, JELF granted $814,070 in interest-free last-dollar loans to 220 students across its five-state region including five in the Gulf Coast service area.
