A new community holiday event, the Teddy Bear Tea.

The PJ Library Family Council, chaired by Melanie Bowman, and the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties are hosting the Teddy Bear Tea on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Margarete Heye Great Room at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.

Although it isn’t specifically called a grandparent event in an effort to be inclusive of all children, the organizers hope that grandparents and special friends will bring their youngsters to this holiday program.

“I am always on the lookout for opportunities to make special memories with my granddaughter, especially around the holidays. I am so excited to help create special Jewish memories for children and their families,” said Jan Segal, Melanie’s mother and co-chair of the program.

This new PJ Library program will include a festive mid-morning brunch, accompanied by a reading of a favorite PJ Library Hanukkah children’s book, entertainment and holiday themed activities for children ages 2 to 11.

More than just a holiday party, the Teddy Bear Tea is also a community initiative of the Jewish Federation in partnership with Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, to teach young guests the spirit of tzedekah (charity). Guests are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear to donate to needy children through Gulf Coast and other nonprofits.

The event is partially funded by a grant for family programming by Herman Forbes Charitable Trust.

The cost to attend is $18 for adults and $8 for children, plus a new teddy bear to donate.

Reservations are expected to go fast. To RSVP, call the federation office at (727) 530-3223 or email Reservations can also be made online at
