Andrea Caban in The Voice Bank...

The Tampa Bay area is fortunate to have some wonderful and talented artists that find their way home. Award-winning solo performer Andrea Caban is one of those who is returning to her roots here. Andrea is performing her latest solo play, The Voice Bank at the Straz Center Nov. 18 - 20.

The Voice Bank is the story of one woman who defies her ALS diagnosis to fight for the privilege to keep speaking. Caban plays both herself and Terry, a woman with an indomitable spirit, as they manage Terry’s progressing symptoms through voice and accent training. The play is based on a true story and taken from over 40 hours of actual transcriptions of session between Terry and Andrea along with conversations with doctors and other professionals.

Andrea Caban performing Andrea Caban performing Andrea, a voice and accent coach including for ALS patients, is currently the associate director and designated Master Teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork™ and head of Voice & Speech at Cal State University, Long Beach.

Andrea grew up in Tampa and celebrated her bat mitzvah at Congregation Kol Ami, and her proud dad, Joel Chudnow, still lives in Tampa. She attended the Pinellas County Center for Performing Arts at Gibbs High in St. Pete and received her undergrad theater degree at USF before heading out to California.

P.S. As always, I’m looking forward to hearing about all your family simchas. Photos are welcome, too. Send information to: Sincerely Yours, P.O. Box 6970, Clearwater, FL 33758, or e-mail jewishpress@aol.com.
