Federal elections official to speak on ‘Taking on Citizen’s United’

Ellen Weintraub, a member of the Federal Election Commission, will give a lecture on “Taking on Citizen’s United: Goals for Restoring our Democracy,” at Temple Beth-El in St. Petersburg on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Commissioner Weintraub will be visiting St. Petersburg to serve as an expert witness for an ordinance that is being considered by the St. Petersburg City Council. There are two issues at hand: (1) banning foreign money in St. Petersburg elections and (2) banning super PACs in the city elections.

This event is sponsored by the Leif Nissen Foundation and co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters St. Petersburg, American Promise - Tampa Bay, Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater, and the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.

There will be a reception immediately following the lecture.

The program is free and open to the public. The temple is located at 400 Pasadena Ave. S.
