The doctor is in for Women of Distinction

Dr. Ruth Westheimer Dr. Ruth Westheimer Dr. Ruth Westheimer, best known simply as Dr. Ruth to millions who have listened to her advice on sexual matters, will be the keynote speaker at the Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties’ popular Women of Distinction program, a high tea, on Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater.

Preceding the tea, there will be a private reception for select guests with Westheimer, 87, who will be signing her 2015 book, The Doctor is in: Dr. Ruth on Love, Life, and Joie de Vivre.

In addition to Westheimer’s speech, the Federation will honor women volunteers from 30 Jewish organizations in Pinellas and Pasco counties with the Women of Distinction award, to be presented for their outstanding dedication and leadership within the local Jewish community.

This year’s program also will institute a new honor: the Dawkins Young Woman of Distinction award. The honor is open to women in their 30s who show exemplary leadership. It is named in recognition of the significant vision that Karen and Jim Dawkins had in creating and operating the Jewish Press, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary in the Tampa Bay area.

“This year’s Women of Distinction is the one people will talk about for years to come. From the theme, Dr. Ruth, the festive food and our generous sponsors, it will be a true celebration of the incredible individuals and organizations that make our greater Jewish community stronger every day in 2016,” said Becca Tieder, who, along with Katie Blaxberg is joining with seasoned committee members Linda Goldman, Chaya Korf, and Abby Sterensis to plan the event.

The Women of Distinction event has a new registration procedure that opened March 1 on the Federation website, General admission to the event will be $36.

There will be various upgraded packages available that include Dr. Ruth’s book and a chance to meet her and have a photo taken with her. Childcare at the event will be provided. Temple B’nai is at 1685 S. Belcher Road in Clearwater. For more information, call (727) 530-3223 or e-mail Diana at
