Interest-free college loans available through Gulf Coast JFCS

Two interest-free college loan programs to help students fill in financial gaps are available for Jewish students in Pinellas County, and one of them is also offered in Pasco counties.

The programs, both administered by Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, are the Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF) and the Trockey Educational Loan Fund.

JELF provides interest-free college loans to Jewish students in the Southeast and is available through Gulf Coast in Pinellas and Pasco counties. Gulf Coast will conduct interviews of local recipients and assist in getting the paperwork processed.

“What a treat it is to meet such vivacious, innovative young students and their families as they go through the process of searching for funds to help with financial gaps” said Gail Allen, Gulf Coast program coordinator.

The JELF loan applications for the 2016-2017 school year will be available March 1 through April 30 on JELF’s website at www.jelf.org. The loans are for post-secondary education (college, graduate school and vocational programs).

Through the fall application cycle, $45,000 was awarded to 20 students. In total, JELF awarded a total of $800,000 in interest freeloans to 219 students in the 5-state region for the 2015-2016 academic year

The Trockey Educational Loan Fund provides interest-free loans that bridge the gap between a student’s financial resources and the cost of attending school. This application is not time-based and can be applied for at any time.
