Obituaries

GLORIA ABRAMS, 85, of Gulfport, died Dec. 16. Born in Providence, RI, she worked for 35 years in the Providence School System and then worked as a Realtor in Rhode Island. After moving to Florida, she enjoyed working for the Glass Canvas Gallery in St. Petersburg. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Brennan; and one granddaughter. The family suggests memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, St. Petersburg Chapel)

IRA MICHAEL BERNSTEIN, 71, of Indian Shores, and Asheville, NC, died Dec. 2. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and worked for 40 years as a gastroenterologist at the Asheville VA Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Patricia; daughter, Crystal; stepson and wife, Avery and Kate Stephens; sister-in-law, Barbara; and one step-granddaughter. ROSE CHERNICK, 99, of Largo, died Dec. 5. A native of Sioux City, IA, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her son, Steven Chernick, of Parrish. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, St. Petersburg Chapel)

HOWARD GOLDBERG, 53, of Clearwater, died Dec. 9. He was born in Philadelphia and had worked for many years in sales. Survivors include his father, Louis Goldberg; brother, Murray Goldberg; and close friend, Sydelle Freifeld. (Life Tribute Funeral Home, Largo)

GERALD LISS, 69, of Groveland, died Dec. 8. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joyce; two sons; Jeff Liss and Scott Liss; brother, Andrew Liss; sister, Hinda Goldman; and five grandchildren. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Clearwater Chapel)

LESTER NIERENBERG, 91, of Largo, died Dec. 13. He was born in Brooklyn, and moved here in 1986 from Boston. He was a retired chemical engineer and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Clearwater Chapel)
