Vodka Latke goes all-in with addition of casino games

Planners are adding a new twist to the annual Vodka Latke event in the Tampa Bay area: Vegas-style games.

The Young Adult Divisions of the Tampa Jewish Community Center & Federation and the Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties will host this year’s event, aptly named Vodka Latke: Casino Royale, on Thursday, Dec. 24, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The first floor atrium in a building at 4030 W. Boy Scout Blvd., Tampa, will be transformed into the “Casino Lounge” for the event.

The annual Vodka Latke is open to all members of the Tampa Bay Jewish community between the ages of 21 and 45. Unlike some other events around the country (like those known as the Matzoh Ball) that cater exclusively to Jewish singles, the Vodka Latke here is for singles and couples. The new casino games are intended to promote mingling for attendees who don’t know each other yet. The Vegas-style tables will include poker, blackjack, craps and roulette,

“YAD has gotten feedback from past attendees that it would be great to have an activity to participate in so they can get to know new faces in a less awkward environment, said YAD Director Suzanne Peikin.

She said that the YAD Council led by Amanda Fleischbein, thought that the casino games would provide “a great ice-breaker opportunity while adding to the swanky vibe of Vodka Latke.”

Tickets purchased by Tuesday, Dec. 22 are $36 and $45 at the door. Admission includes starter chips and a complimentary beverage of choice. The evening also includes heavy appetizers, drink specials all night, a chance drawing, and more.

As always, attendees are asked to bring two cans of non-perishable food items to donate to Tampa Jewish Family Services and Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services.

For reservations, go to jewishtampa.com/YAD. For more information or to be a sponsor, contact Peikin at (813) 769-4723 or Elana Gootson at (727) 530-3223.

The Vodka Latke is supported this year by Vaco Staffing and Erin & Milton Carp.
