Mazel tov…

to Karen and Jim Dawkins, Editor and ublisher of The Jewish Press, on the birth of their grandson, Jackson Reid Dawkins. Jackson, son of Jenny and Jeremy Dawkins, was born Sept. 21 in Orlando. He joins 19-month-old big bro, Carson. Among his other happy family is especially proud aunt Rachel Dawkins of St. Petersburg and equally thrilled grandparents, Chris and Mike Cox of North Palm Beach.

A bright idea…

Congratulations to Candi Obrentz for getting a design patent on her first product invention, RestoPresto®. Candi, a graduate of St. Petersburg High School and Florida State University, is the daughter of St. Petersburg native Sue Yaffin Froid. A resident of Manhattan for the past 20 years, Candi’s idea for the product came during a stroll through Central Park when she wanted to stretch out on the grass and enjoy the weather. Having nothing to sit on, she used her jacket, but it became grass-stained and wet, so she immediately began looking for a solution in stores and online, finding little of use. RestoPresto® converts from a small pouch to an extra layer to sit on, sit under or wear. She actually launched the product and a Kickstarter campaign at a party given by a longtime friend in downtown St. Pete last fall.

Candi Obrentz Candi Obrentz Graduation news…

Barry Scharfman, Ph.D, son of Lilly and Milton Sager of Dunedin and Gloria and Michael Scharfman of Farmingdale, NY, just received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Barry has accepted a position with a major Fortune 500 company in Virginia.

Chad recently accepted a position with Urology Consultants, a division of Urology Specialists of West Florida. He will be seeing patients in Dunedin and Safety Harbor. A University of Florida alumnus, Chad returned to Pinellas County after completing a Urology Surgical Residency at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WVa.

Meanwhile, Grant has accepted a position with the Emergency Department at New York Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn. Grant, also a UF grad, recently completed an Emergency Medicine Residency program at New York Methodist Hospital. He resides in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Happy birthday…

Morris J. LeVine, M.D. celebrated his 90th birthday for a week or more. Morrie, who is a regular minyanaire at Congregation B’nai Israel in St. Petersburg, began by sponsoring the minyan breakfast on his actual birthday, Wednesday Oct. 7. More than 40 attended, including daughter Sharon Rosenthal and husband Dave from Texas. They also hosted a private dinner party that evening. On Shabbat, Oct 10, Morrie received an aliyah in honor of his birthday and daughter Sharon read the Torah portion of that aliyah. That evening an intimate party was held for the immediate family with karaoke, cake and pizza. Of their 17 grandchildren and three spouses and two great grandchildren, all but eight made it to town for the special birthday. Two more grandchildren arrived the next weekend to end the celebration with Zaydie’s (Morrie) specialty, chocolate milkshakes.

P.S. As always, I’m looking forward to hearing from you about all your family simchas. Photos are welcome, too. Send information to: Sincerely Yours, P.O. Box 6970, Clearwater, FL 33758, e-mail jewishpress@aol.com or fax (727) 530-3039.
