The couple is now a part of Shalom Roamers, a group for Jewish RV enthusiasts who travel extensively and meet up. The members have formed a tight-knit group that provides a Jewish community within the mobility of a traveling lifestyle.

An offshoot of the national Jewish RV group, CHAI, the Roamers was started for those Jewish RVers mainly living (and traveling) on the East Coast.

“When a Jewish family or couple buys an RV to travel across the U.S., their friends and family either believe they have lost their minds or are jealous they didn’t have the nerve to do the same,” said Zimbler-DeLorenzo, the Shalom Roamers current president.

But then they are surprised to find out there are many other Jewish free spirits out there,” she said.

Since the Roamers began in 2014, their membership has grown to 21 coaches.

One of the perks of traveling around the country, Zimbler-De- Lorenzo said, is being able to visit new synagogues for Shabbat services. Since she and Dennis have visited all but a handful of states, their options have been endless.

“Every Friday we visit a new synagogue in a new city. We’ve gotten the chance to meet a lot of really wonderful people and make lifelong friends. When you own an RV and travel in an RV, that’s your life; it’s a lifestyle.”

Getting together with people from different parts of the country and sharing the connection of faith is what has attracted Zimbler- DeLorenzo and others like her to the seasonal rallies and events held every few months by the Shalom Roamers.

This year’s Winter Rally is planned next month in the Sarasota area and includes a packed agenda.

There will be a Shabbat dinner and services; Havdalah; Torah study; Hebrew class; a tzedakah project; “Sip ‘N Noshes,” the group’s annual meeting; dinner at a restaurant; a pot luck dinner; RV Travel roundtable; book club discussion; game night; lox, bagel and eggs breakfast; dog park gatherings; shuffleboard tournament, and a golf outing.

The rally will be held Tuesday, Dec 22 to Sunday, Dec. 27 at the Sun-N-Fun RV Resort in Sarasota. Fees are $20 plus $38 per night at the RV park.

To become a member of the Shalom Roamers, dues are $18 per year, per RV. For more information contact: ShalomRoamers@gmail.com or call Debbie Zimbler- DeLorenzo at (727) 415-0736.
