Blazing a trail …

Sharon Israel, daughter of Bill and Sally Israel of St. Petersburg, was recently honored with the Eléonore Raoul Greene Trailblazer award, presented by the Emory University Law School in recognition of her “notable achievement in a field that is not traditional for women.” Sharon Israel grew up in St. Petersburg and had her bat mitzvah at Temple Beth-El. She received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and went on to get MBA and JD degrees from Emory in Atlanta. She is a partner in the global law firm of Mayer Brown and serves as president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Sharon lives in Houston.

Time to celebrate …

Sharon Israel Sharon Israel South Pasadena resident Janet Spiegelman will celebrate her 100th birthday on Oct. 27. Born in Pittsburgh, she graduated from University of Michigan in 1925 and married her beloved, Tunney Spiegelman, in 1938. They moved to St Petersburg in the late 1960s to avoid the northern winters. Together, they traveled the world. When Tunney passed away, Janet continued her travels that included an African Safari. Janet has been an avid theatergoer since the age of 10 and has saved every play bill from every production she has ever attended. Additionally, she has a reknown wrist watch and clock collection. Clocks adorn every wall, tabletop, door, etc. in her apartment! Nephews Gary and Lee Rogaliner are hosting a celebration on Oct. 24 at Jackie’s Bistro on Corey. Mazel tov on this fabulous milestone, Janet!
