A saluute to our Jewish War Veterans

By RABBI JACOB LUSKI
Congregation B’nai Israel, St. Petersburg

As proud Americans we pause and remember those who have given their lives to preserve our way of life, a life of freedom and democracy. Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to pause, remember and thank those who have served our country to preserve unity and defend liberty.

Avinu Shebashamayim, Our Heavenly Father, we humbly ask your blessings upon all Veterans who we remember. We give thanks for their untiring devotion to duty as they diligently have served our country. Let us never forget their patriotism, courage, fortitude and tenacity as they fought to keep us safe here in America and abroad.

Please enable us to focus on their positive ideals of bravery as a foundation for our willingness to support the cause of justice and freedom in America. We ask for Your blessings upon their families, that healing and comfort will enable them to continue in spite of their loss. Give them strength, faith and courage as You gave their loved ones, to persevere in their endeavors.

If you wish to support your Jewish War Veterans you can join us as we visit those veterans who are ill, on Thursday mornings at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center, Bay Pines. For further information, please call the synagogue office at Congregation B’nai Israel 381-4900.

Another way you can pay tribute to our Jewish War Veterans is by attending one of the upcoming programs planned at our community congregations to honor our veterans.

Grant us your blessings on this Veterans Day, and keep us safe in your care.
