Suncoast Hillels hires USF grad to support Israel advocacy

Michael Kalmowicz Michael Kalmowicz To further develop Israel advocacy efforts on the University of South Florida Tampa campus, Hillels of the Florida Suncoast has hired Michael Kalmowicz as the Israel on Campus specialist.

In his new role, Kalmowicz will identify and train the Israel advocates and develop a sustainable Israel activism program on campus.

Kalmowicz is no stranger to Israel awareness and activism, having served as the president of USF’s Bulls for cIsrael student organization and as the USF liaison to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). He was a member of the USF AIPAC Cadre that received the Policy Conference Activist of the Year award two years in a row.

Kalmowicz also served as treasurer of USF Hillel and was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. He holds bachelor of science degrees in international relations and history, both from USF.

“The position is a great opportunity for USF Hillel to develop a much-needed, formalized Israel awareness program,” said Kalmowicz. “By the fall of 2016, our students will not only have the tools necessary to continue and expand pro-Israel activism on campus, but will also have a solid, organized approach to ensure continuity of the effort for future student generations to come. I am so honored to be able to continue USF Hillel’s Israel advocacy work on campus and be an integral part of this initiative.”

Several private donors in the Tampa Bay area are supporting the Israel on Campus Specialist position. Anyone interested in helping underwrite this position should contact Linda Wolf, assistant director for Hillels of the Florida Suncoast at (813) 899-2788 or emailing shalom@suncoasthillels.org. Donations are also accepted at www.suncoasthillels.org/donate.
