Book talk: The Congregation B’nai Israel Book Club and the St. Petersburg Chapter of Hadassah co-host a monthly book readers’ discussion group in the Congregation B’nai Israel library. All books are available at the St. Petersburg Public Library. On Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m., the group will meet to discuss The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro.

Fundraiser walk/run: The St. Petersburg and Yachad Chapters of Hadassah are sponsoring a “We Will for Jill,” a 1 to 2-mile walk/run at Lake Seminole Park on Sunday, Jan. 10 to honor the memory of Jill Stenzler-Engleman. All proceeds from the event will be used for women’s health education. Watch for more details to come.

Genealogical Society

DNA and genealogy: Chris Burkland, vice president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Tampa Bay, will speak on DNAand Genealogy on Sunday, Nov. 8 when the group meets at Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater. A social with refreshments and library access begins at 1:30 p.m., and the program starts at 2 p.m. As a research tool, DNA analysis can lead to the discovery of previously unknown family lines. This overview will explain how DNA relates to genealogy, what kinds of DNA tests are available, which companies provide testing, and what the results mean.

Support groups

Alzheimer’s caregiver groups: Menorah Manor’s Bresler Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Program offers a support group meeting in the Samson Nursing Center at Menorah Manor, 255 59th St. N., St. Petersburg, on the first Thursday of the month from 3:30-5 p.m. The Inn on the Pond and the Alzheimer’s Association offer a support group meeting on the last Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Inn on the Pond, 2010 Greenbriar Blvd., Clearwater. Bereavement support: Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services sponsors bereavement support group sessions led by Renee Baseman. The group meets on Thursdays, Nov. 5 and 12 at noon at Congregation B’nai Israel, 300 58th St. N., St. Petersburg. Those interested in joining should contact Sue Loomis at (727) 479- 1897. A donation of non-perishable food to the GCJFCS food pantry is appreciated.
