Disney themed service, dinner: On Friday, Nov. 6, there will be a special Disney themed kabbalat Shabbat service at 6 p.m., followed by a familyfriendly dinner to welcome new members. Cost for the dinner is $18 for adults and $8 for children. RSVP by Tuesday, Nov. 3 to (727) 531-1418. Contact the office for more details.

Kristallnacht commemoration: On Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the social hall there will be a showing of the film God on Trial in commemoration of Kristallnacht. This film addresses the question of God’s role in Jewish tragedy. Paul Applefield will lead a discussion about the film. Light refreshments will be served.

Midrash: On Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. Johanna Bromberg will lead a class, “Midrash: Source of Continuity and Change.”

Book discussion: Paul Applefield will lead a book discussion of As a Driven Leaf, a novel by Milton Steinberg, on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. The book chronicles a critical period in Jewish history dominated by Roman politics, Greek culture, and the establishment of Rabbinic Judaism and Christianity.

Lecture series: Beginning Monday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m., the Gift of Jews Lunch and Learn Lecture Series will be presented by Rabbis David Weizman and Danielle Upbin at the Inn on the Pond in Clearwater, followed by a lunch at noon. This monthly series, especially for senior adults, will explore ancient and modern contributions of the Jewish people to the community at large, focusing on the philosophy and cultural ideals that have driven Jewish people throughout the ages. RSVP to the synagogue office at (727) 531-1418. There is a $10 per person charge for lunch. Inn on the Pond is at 2010 Greenbriar Blvd in Clearwater.

Jewish history disputes: Explore the book Judaism’s Great Debates: Timeless Controversies from Abraham to Herzl by Rabbi Barry L Schwartz during an adult education class on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 5:30-6:45 p.m., led by Rabbi Upbin. Each month the class will explore the monumental Jewish arguments presented in Schwartz’s book.

Lox ’n Learn: Have a little “nosh” and an interactive discussion with Rabbi Weizman every Thursday at 10 a.m. following minyan. The present topic is “Midrash and the Creative Rabbinic Mind.”

Talmud class: On Mondays an adult education class will explore ancient legal tradition with Dr. Priscilla Nathanson. The class convenes after minyan from about 10 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. The class meets in the social hall and is open for all levels of knowledge.

Junk sale: The Sisterhood of Beth Shalom will hold its annual Junk in the Trunk fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 8 with a variety of items on sale.
