Gulf Coast seeks school, home supplies for needy

Gail Allen, JFS family support coordinator, with some school supply donations Gail Allen, JFS family support coordinator, with some school supply donations Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services once again is collecting school supplies for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade and home supplies for needy families.

This is the 11th year for the school supply drive. The school supply drive last year supported local school aged children and middle school students within the Violence Prevention and Refugee Services program.

“Through the generosity of the community, Gulf Coast has been able to provide school supplies to over 200 local children. In addition to starting the school year with a new backpack and needed school items, we can help replenish supplies for students during the year,” said Jewish Family Services Senior Director Cindy Minetti.

Gulf Coast encourages students and local organizations to gather backpacks and supplies, making it a fun community service activity. In addition to gathering donations, students and groups are welcome to come in and help stock the shelves.

Items needed this year include: backpacks (no wheels), notebook paper, markers, colored pencils, folders, zippered pencil cases, binders, calculators, quart and gallon baggies, hand sanitizer and facial tissue. Gift cards are always welcome. Donors should indicate “school supplies” on any checks sent.

The agency will also be collecting needed home supplies, such as paper towels, toilet paper, brooms/ mops, and spray cleaners.

Donations must be delivered by Aug. 17 in order to sort and distribute the supplies before school starts.
