ARTHUR GEWIRTZ, 90, of Tarpon Springs, died March 27. Born in New York, he worked for many years as the executive director of a social services agency. Survivors include his wife, Shirlee; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lawrence Gewirtz and Jerry and Gail Gewirtz. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Clearwater Chapel)

BERNARD KESSLER, 93, of Palm Harbor, died April 7. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he served in the Army. Survivors include his children, Fred Kessler and Harriet (Rich) Winslow; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Clearwater Chapel)

MICHELE ANDREA MARKOWITZ, 45, died March 27. She had previously lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for 24 years. During that time she gained fluency in Portuguese and Spanish, attained a doctoral degree in urban anthropology, and started her own business translating academic books and documents from English into Portuguese and Spanish. She had also lived and studied in Israel, and spent a year doing research in Buenos Aires. Survivors include her parents, Elaine and Bernie Markowitz of Palm Harbor; her brother and sisterin law, David and Jennifer Markowitz; nephew Cameron Markowitz and niece Annabelle Markowitz. SAMUEL ROTHSCHILD, 101, of St. Petersburg, died March 30. Survivors include his children; Michael (Beverly) Rothschild, Rosalynn (Rick) Huntley, Joyce (Roger O’Quinn) Rothschild, David Rothschild, Mark Rothschild, Tina (Tim Hollenbach) Rothschild. RAE SCHUSTER, 101, of St. Pete Beach, died March 26. A native of Bridgeport, CT, she moved here in the 1930s. By 1938, she and her late husband, Isadore, had opened several businesses in the Treasure Island/John’s Pass area including a grocery story, service station, cottages, hotel and department store. PHYLLIS SHAPACK, 89, of Clearwater, died April 2. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Pat Adamson; two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials may be made to YES Fund of Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ). (Curlew Hills Memory Gardens)

ARTHUR WESLEY TIFFORD, 71, died March 29. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from Queens College and Brooklyn Law School. He was a Vietnam veteran and served an extended tour of duty in Vietnam as a Marine Corp officer, retiring as a colonel in 1991. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Melissa and Alexandra; two sisters, Shari Fuss and Ronnie Gralnick; two grandsons. (Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel)
