Hadassah national president to speak in St. Pete on medical research, outreach to Palestinians

Marcie Natan Marcie Natan The four Pinellas Chapters of Hadassah invite the community to a light supper and “A Conversation with Marcie Natan” on Sunday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg.

Natan is national Hadassah president and this will be her first visit to Pinellas County since taking office. She will speak about some of the medical research breakthroughs at Hadassah, particularly in the area of stem cell use for ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases, bone repair and macular degeneration.

She will also talk about the state-of-the art Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower that Hadassah has constructed in Jerusalem. The capital campaign for the tower is in its final stages as Hadassah finishes equipping the final floors.

Another topic she is expected to discuss is how Hadassah reaches out to build bridges to peace with Israel’s neighbors, including extraordinary work in treating patients and training medical practitioners from the West Bank and Gaza.

Natan, a member of Hadassah for more than four decades, has traveled to Israel many times to celebrate Hadassah projects there and to show solidarity with Israel during troubled times.

Lisl Schick, who served on the national Hadassah board and has been a longtime Hadassah leader in Pinellas County, is honorary chair of the event.

The cost for the event is $36 per person. A special donor appreciation reception for annual donors (Chai and Keepers of the Gate) and donors contributing $1,000 or more will be held at 5:30 p.m.

For others attending the event but not the reception, a complementary self-guided tour of the museum is offered at 5:30 p.m. The program with Natan begins at 6:15 p.m. and includes a light supper.

The museum is at 55 Fifth St. S. in St. Petersburg.

The Hadassah groups hosting the event are the Lylah Pinellas, North Pinellas, St. Petersburg and Yachad chapters. For more information and to RSVP, call Renee Lipman at (727) 698-0171.
