Michael Tauber of St. Petersburg, a senior at Admiral Farragut Academy, helped organize a special presentation to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at his school on Jan. 15. Tauber, who is interested in film, used film industry contacts to enlist filmmaker Stan Arthur to speak at the event and give a video/slide presentation that included scenes of riot police assaulting protesters during a civil rights march, and scenes of Freedom Riders who had to escape from a bus burned by Ku Klux Klan members. Tauber’s interest in MLK stems from his grandfather Isaac Frank’s activism for civil rights and his aid in the 1963 march on Washington where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. Tauber is co-president of the BEEFY youth group at Temple Beth El. He is the son of Phyllis and Paul Tauber of St. Petersburg.
