Nominations sought for annual ‘Breaking the Glass Ceiling’ awards

The Jewish Museum of Florida FIU (JMOF-FIU) announces its search for nominations for its annual Breaking the Glass Ceiling Awards, presented to women who have excelled in professional fields that are normally dominated by men. Nominees are also judged based upon activities in the Jewish and civic communities and serving as role models for other women.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Jan. 16.

“While there have been outstanding strides made by Jewish professional women throughout the state, it is important that we continue to recognize these women as an inspiration to others to aim for the stars,” said Jo Ann Arnowitz, director of JMOF-FIU. “We encourage the Florida community to nominate women who they feel are worthy of this honor. Each year, we receive a fascinating assortment of nominations of women from all over the state in diverse professions, from fire fighters to forensic artists.”

Since the Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award was established in 1995, more than 80 winners have been honored from a wide variety of fields such as medicine, banking, accounting, academia, politics, law, aviation, journalism, sports and entertainment.

The 2015 Breaking the Glass Awards ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, featuring the honorees discussing the how they broke through the proverbial glass ceiling.

Nomination forms can be dowloaded from and download the nomination form, or contact the museum at (786) 972-3164 or
