About Nichols

Dan Nichols is one of the most popular and influential Jewish musicians in North America, performing more than 200 concerts a year. His music has become an important part of the Reform Jewish movement, with synagogue youth and clergy alike incorporating it into their services, programming, and curriculum.

Nichols’involvement as part of the faculty at Hava Nashira, his appearances at the National Association of Temple Youth (NFTY) National Convention, and his many summers visiting Jewish camps across North America have brought him a growing legion of fans.

Nichols is a product of the Jewish camping movement. He spent 10 summers at the Goldman Union Camp in Zionsville, IN, before receiving his degree in vocal performance at the University of North Carolina. In 1995 he established the Jewish rock band Eighteen. Since then they have released eight albums, each one receiving critical acclaim.

He has served as a cantorial soloist at congregations in Nashville, TN, and Raleigh, NC, where he now resides. He has fronted bands that have performed with Hootie and the Blowfish, Ben Folds Five, and others.

His anthology includes a range of sounds and styles from energetic Jewish rock anthems to moving interpretations of traditional Jewish liturgy. His live performances are known for their unrestrained energy and infectious spirit. He spends more than 180 days each year on the road. In addition Nichols serves on the faculty of Hava Nashira and he co-founded Shulhouse Rock, a songleading workshop for Jewish highschool students.
