Pedi-sukkahs cruise streets of New York

The holiday of Sukkot commands Jews to live in “booths” — commemorating the temporary dwellings their ancestors inhabited while wandering the desert for 40 years. Now, one Brooklyn yeshiva student with the Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic sect, has taken it upon himself to ensure that all New Yorkers can experience the holiday.

Levi Duchman, 21, is the inventor of the pedi-sukkah, a rickshaw bicycle with a mobile sukkah attached to the back. While small, each sukkah meets all the halachic requirements. During the days before Sukkot and during Hol Hamoed, Duchman says he spends 12 hours a day on the pedi-sukkah, pedaling around Brooklyn and Manhattan, and letting New Yorkers step inside to say a blessing.

“We get a lot of smiles and pictures, and lot of positivity, even from the police,” Duchman say. Sometimes people ask to take a ride in the sukkah, and he obliges for short trips.

Duchman built his first pedi-sukkah five years ago. Today, there are over 50 of his bikes spread across 15 states and more than five countries.

Duchman also has created a “menorah cycle” for Chanukah, and a “mitzvah cycle” affixed with a banner that encourages others to lay tefillin and light Shabbat candles

Hezbollah says bomb that wounded Israeli soldiers was a ‘message’

JERUSALEM – Hezbollah said an attack on Lebanon’s border with Israel that left two Israeli soldiers injured was a “message” for Israel. “Even though we are busy in Syria and on the eastern front in Lebanon, our eyes remain open and our resistance is ready to confront the Israeli enemy,” Sheik Naim Qassem, Hezbollah’s deputy secretary-general, Reuters reported.

The soldiers were injured Oct. 7 by a bomb planted near the border with Lebanon. A Hezbollah cell called the Ali Hassan Martyr Unit took responsibility for the attack. The Israeli military returned fire with tank shells into southern Lebanon following the attack, the Israeli army confirmed.

Video shows executions of 4 Egyptians accused as informants for Israel

An Egyptian Islamist group released a video of four Egyptians accused of being informants for Israeli intelligence being executed, three by beheading. On Monday, Oct. 6 the Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis posted a video on YouTube of the executions, Reuters reported.

Ansar, which has carried on a military campaign in the Sinai against the Egyptian army, reportedly accused Egypt of collaborating with Israel. The Islamist group vowed to hunt down and kill informants who provide intelligence to the army, promising to continue to “harvest the spies of the Jews.”

In the video, three men reportedly confess to being informants and are then decapitated by masked men, who then place the severed heads upon the corpses’ backs. A fourth man likewise confesses and is then riddled with bullets.

The video is reminiscent of recent beheading videos issued by the militant group Islamic State, which has operated in Iraq and Syria. Reuters had previously reported that the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, has been advising Ansar via the Internet.
