It was a time to contemplate the tenuous peace in Israel and be reminded of how much support from American Jews means to the embattled nation.

And, it was a time to consider the myriad ways the Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties makes life better for people right here.

The occasion was the annual Campaign Kickoff, held Sept. 17 at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.

With a campaign goal of $1 million, the crowd of about 150 was asked to pledge support and help with efforts to encourage others do give as well.

The event featured the presentation of the annual community leadership awards, a series of vignettes by various people who have been helped by Federation programs and a speech by Micah Halpern, an expert on the Middle East and terrorism.
