A Chicken for Shabbat

Gulf Coast JFCS is expanding the food pantry services with a new Chicken for Shabbat program. This program will provide additional perishable food to families. Every family is entitled to celebrate Shabbat, a day of peace, joy and delicious foods. But what if there is not food to put on the table? For each $36 donation to the Chicken for Shabbat program, a family will receive a grocery gift card to purchase their Shabbat meal.

A delightful children’s book, A Chicken for Shabbat, is part of this program. The book is being given to children in local religious schools to talk about the wonder of Shabbat and the mitzvah of bringing, joy, happiness and hope to families. “It is our hope that families will generously support this program. Many of the religious schools will be using their weekly tzedakah money to see how many chickens they can buy! We are very excited with the support we have received from the synagogues around this new program, “said Cindy Minetti, Senior Director of JFS & Refugee Services at Gulf Coast.

A Chicken for Shabbat is presented in partnership with The Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry and the Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Palm Beach County. All local donations will go directly to supporting Pinellas and Pasco families. Donations may be made by mail to Gulf Coast JFCS, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760 or online at Please indicate “Chicken Shabbat” on your donation.
