Operation School & Home Supplies aims to aid needy

Last year, Tyler Starr collected over $500 in school supplies. Last year, Tyler Starr collected over $500 in school supplies. For the 10th year, Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services is collecting school supplies for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and this year, Gulf Coast is expanding the collection to help parents with needed home supplies, such as paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning products.

The school supply drive last year supported local school children including many middle school students within the Violence Prevention program.

“Through the generosity of the community, Gulf Coast was able to provide school supplies to more than 300 local children,” said Cindy Minetti, Jewish Family Services Director. “In addition to starting the school year with a new backpack and needed school items, we can help replenish supplies for students during the year.”

Gulf Coast encourages students and local organizations to gather items over the summer. In addition, students and groups are welcome to come in and stock the shelves.

Items needed this year include:

• School suppies — Backpacks (no wheels), notebook paper, markers, colored pencils, folders, zippered pencil cases, binders, calculators, quart and gallon baggies, and hand sanitizer.

• Home suuplies — Paper towels, toilet paper, brooms/mops, facial tissue and spray cleaners.

Of course, checks and gift cards are always welcome.

Donations must be delivered by Aug. 15, in order to sort and distribute the supplies before school starts.

Drop-off locations are:

• Mid-Pinellas – Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services; Congregation Beth Shalom, Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties, Temple B’nai Israel.

• St. Petersburg – Chabad of St Petersburg; Congregation B’nai Israel, Menorah Manor; Philip Benjamin Tower; Temple Beth-El.
