Talent on display…

Maya Jacobson, daughter of Cantor Deborah and Jordan Jacobson, has come up with a novel way to help meet her educational goals and assist a charity close to her heart at the same time. Maya is producing a musical event, which she calls “Mayhem with Maya,” a not so calm evening of music, mimicry and madness, at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Clearwater on Wednesday night July 16. She, along with some other local talented teens, will be performing. The concert is free, but donations are appreciated. The donations will help fund her education at Boston Conservatory (she leaves at the end of August) and The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (she has had Type 1 Diabetes since age 11). Maya, by the way, was recently named the winner of the 2014 Ruth Eckerd Hall Dare to Dream Competition in Vocal, Drama and Fan Favorite!

Melissa and David Bernstein of Oldsmar were recently honored by the Top of the Bay Garden Club for having the Yard of the Month. Club officials noted the clusters of bamboo, Robellini palms, bird of paradise and variety of plants

Carl Glassberg of Clearwater recently traveled to attend two wonderful occasions in two days to honor his late sisterin law, former Pinellas county resident Bella Mischkinsky. The first one was a reception in honor of her generosity to Montgomery College, in Rockville, MD, where she once attended classes. The second one was at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., where she was honored for leaving a major gift in her will. Bella was born in Poland in 1922 and was imprisoned in ghettos, concentration camps and a slave labor camp. She overcame adversity and went on to have a beautiful life. Her sister is Irene Glassberg, Carl’s wife.
