Five dentists from our north county Jewish community – Dr. Ira Berger, Dr. Robert Churney, Dr. Robert Ettleman, Dr. Harvey Kerstein and Dr. Larry Lieberman – were among the 700 dentists and hygienists who participated in the Florida Dental Associations’ first Florida Mission of Mercy held in March at the Florida State Fairgrounds. During the two-day event, more than 8,000 dental procedures – cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals and partial dentures – were completed on 1,700 patients. All the dental work was done free of charge.

Ettleman, Kerstein, Lieberman and Churney are members of the board of Gulf Coast Dental Outreach, which recruits volunteer dentists to provide services to low-income patients for a nominal fee.

On Sunday, March 2, Ahlohn Graye Wolf, 18, son of Tami and Michael Wolf of Palm Harbor, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Ahlohn has been a Boy Scout for 12 years, fulfilling all the requirements of an Eagle Scout including 21 Eagle level Merit Badges and completing an Eagle Service Project. For his service project, Ahlohn built an arbor and laid the foundation for the drip irrigation system in the Biblical Peace Gardens at Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater. Ahlohn’s grandparents from Sunrise, Harold and Sylvia Eisner as well as grandmother Barbara Levin of Westchase, were among more than 100 people who attended the Eagle Scout ceremony. Ahlohn is expected to graduate from Newpoint Pinellas High School, where he participated in the aviation internship. He plans to spend nine months studying and volunteering in Israel on Young Judaea’s Year Course Program before entering Embry Riddle Aeronautical University’s Aerospace College in Daytona Beach.
