Obama renominates St. Pete’s Liz Sembler to broadcasting board

WASHINGTON (JTA) — President Barack Obama nominated Liz Sembler of St. Petersburg to a second six-year term on the board of Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Sembler is the director of Congregational Engagement for Congregation B’nai Israel in St. Petersburg and previously served as director of Jewish studies at the defunct Pinellas County Jewish Day School.

She is currently the vice chairwoman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a congressionally mandated private nonprofit that oversees how government funds are spent among public broadcasters, including PBS and NPR.

President George W. Bush first nominated Sembler, a daughter-inlaw of Mel Sembler, a major GOP donor, in 2008.
