(L-R) Dr. Martina Emme and Bonnie Stein. (L-R) Dr. Martina Emme and Bonnie Stein. Representatives from the Italian and Israeli consular offices will be featured during an International Holocaust Remembrance Day program at the Italian Club of Tampa, 1731 E. 7th Ave., Ybor City, on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m.

Vincent Genovese, consular correspondent of Italy, and Chaim Shacham, Israel consul general for Florida and Puerto Rico, are scheduled to be in attendance, as well as Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Rabbi Richard Birnholz of Congregation Schaarai Zedek and Rabbi David Weizman of Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater.

Speakers will include Bonnie Stein of St. Petersburg, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, and Dr. Martina Emme, a German psychologist who is the granddaughter of a Nazi soldier and founder of an organization to establish dialogue between Holocaust survivors and their descendants and children whose parents were Nazis. One of the lessons Emme shares is the guilt many children of Nazis feel over the “sins of their fathers.” The two will share how their families’ stories shaped themselves and their world.

(Stein and Emme will give a similar presentation on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Florida Holocaust Museum in downtown St. Petersburg. The Museum Member Night is free to members and their guests, $9 for others. RSVP immediately to (727) 820- 0100, ext 251.)

Holocaust survivor Art Meir of Tampa will also participate in the Holocaust Remembrance Day program.

In addition, the event will include a performance by members of the Bay Area Cantorial Association (BACA). Participating will be Cantor Deborrah Cannizzaro, cantorial leader Joy Katzen-Guthrie, Cantor Andres Kornworcel, Cantor Judith Ovadia, Cantor Colman Reaboi, Cantor Joel Reznick, Cantor Beth Schlossberg, Cantor Jonathan Schultz, Cantor Marci Vitkus, and Cantor Jeffrey Weber.

There is no charge for the event, but seating is limited. RSVP immediately to lunione@ italian-club.org, or call (813)-248-3316.
