Arabs on Temple Mount arrested after throwing rocks at Jews

JERUSALEM (JTA) — At least seven Arab worshipers on the Temple Mount were arrested following clashes that included throwing rocks at Jewish visitors to the holy site. Israeli police made the arrests on Wednesday morning, Sept. 4, following reports of masked men throwing rocks at Jews visiting the site in advance of Rosh HaShana.  More...

Plans for Munich Olympics memorial unveiled

BERLIN (JTA) – Plans have been unveiled for a memorial in Munich to 11 Israelis and a German police officer murdered at the 1972 Summer Olympics there.  At a Sept. 4 news conference at the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, plans were announced for the memorial a day before the 41st anniversary of the attack by the Palestinian terrorist group Black September.  More...

Jewish institutions awarded $9 million in federal security grants

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Jewish institutions received nearly all of the funding from the Department of Homeland Security for nonprofit groups to help protect themselves from terrorism.  The department announced $10 million in federal security grants last week, and $9 million went to Jewish institutions, according to a statement by Jewish Federations of North America.  More...
