Obituaries

HANA C. ARKON, 93, of St. Petersburg, died Jan. 6. Born in Poland, she moved here several years ago from Erie, PA. Survivors include her son, Aron Arkon; daughter, Ella Diamond; and four grandchildren. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, St. Petersburg Chapel)

ELAINE FREEDMAN, 76, of Clearwater, died Dec. 20. She was born in Everett, MA, and raised her family in Holbrook prior to moving to Florida in 1986. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Harold; her children, Terri Freedman, Randy Freedman, Steven Freedman, Karen Pucciarelli, Robin Cole; sister, Sandra Zeltcer; daughterin law, Danita and two sons-in-law, Dana and Joe; sister, Sandra Zeltcer; and 13 grandchildren. HARRY GOLD, 94, of Clearwater, died Dec. 25. A native of New York City, he was a practicing attorney for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater. Survivors include his son and daughterin law, Aaron and Cheryl Gold; daughter, Susan Gold; four grandchildren. LOGAN MATTHEW KUSHNER, 19, of Safety Harbor, died Jan. 8. He attended St. Pauls School in Clearwater and graduated from Palm Harbor University High School as a student in the medical magnet program. He served as a volunteer at Mease Countryside Hospital. He was a member of the Palm Harbor varsity football and wrestling teams. He attended Stetson University in Deland. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and the quarterback of the championship intra-mural flag football team. Survivors include his parents, P. A. and Mike Kushner, brother, Evan Kushner; grandparents, Dave and Betty Kushner of Hollywood. (Curlew Hills Funeral Home)

WILLIAM LITT, 91, of Palm Harbor, died Dec. 21. He was born in Cleveland, OH, and moved here from Bloomfield Hills, MI. Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years, Elizabeth; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Litt and Jerri Salmon; two daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia and Mark Barnett and Adrienne Litt Bishko; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Marion Litt; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. LAWRENCE A. MILLER, 77, of Clearwater, died Jan. 11. Born in Queens, NY, he grew up in South Chicago, IL. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a past president of the former Golda Meir/Kent Jewish Center in Clearwater. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jeri; daughters and son-in-law, Andrea Miller and Kim and Joe Raznik; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Ghantous-Greene & Gordon Greene, Susan and Michael Whisenant and Kerri and Neil Lippert; step-son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Jilan Glorfield; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. HELEN MEYER, 96, of Palm Harbor, died Jan. 9. She was born in a small town in the Bavaria region of Germany. She moved to New York in 1937 and in 1942 married her late husband Karl Meyer. She moved to Florida shortly after Karl died in 1978. She had worked as a sales associate for Franklin Simon and Lord and Taylor department stores in Manhattan. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gerry and Henry Goldhammer. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Clearwater Chapel)

SAMUEL SCHUR, 73, of Spencer, IN, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Dec. 24. (David C. Gross Funeral Homes, St. Petersburg Chapel)

WILLIAM H. “BILL” WOLFSON, 89, of Omaha, NE and formerly of St. Petersburg, died Dec. 24. Born and raised in Omaha, he lived in St. Petersburg in early 1960s before returning to Nebraska. He was a veteran of World War II, dropping paratroopers from his C47 airplane. He was a grocer for 40 years and an avid bowler and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ann; two daughters, Laverne Feingold, of Denver; and Donna Kort, of Indianapolis; son, Louis Wolfson, of Omaha; brother, Harold Wolfson, of St. Pete Beach; two sisters, Bette Schroeder, of St. Petersburg and Lorraine Denenberg, Mountain View, CA; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home in Omaha, the Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice. (Jewish Funeral Home, Omaha)
