B’nai Brith

Brunch time: B’nai B’rith will hold its next bagel and lox brunch on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be the first in a series on Jewish ancestry, with past B’nai B’rith President Howard Feingold interviewing members Joe and Irene Levin. Discussion will also include Feingold’s reflections on his Ukrainian roots and his recent Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC, with 75 World War II veterans. Unit 2603 President Stuart Berger will also discuss Middle East current events. The meeting will be held at the JCC Suncoast, north campus, 2075 Sunnydale Blvd. Clearwater, 33765. A photographic journey: The North Pinellas, Lylah and Pasco Chapters of Hadassah will hold the Centennial Book and Author Luncheon on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the Heritage Springs Country Club, 11345 Robert Trent Jones Parkway, Trinity. Participants will meet photographer/philanthropist Danny Taran, who created The 4000 Year Journey In Search Of Peace coffee table book as a photographic history of the Jewish people. Special honors: The North Pinellas Chapter of Hadassah will hold a luncheon honoring past president Ronnie Goodstein, who will be given the Hadassah Centennial Award on Monday, Oct. 17 at noon at Alfano’s Restaurant, 1702 Clearwater-Largo Road, Clearwater. Terri Tankel, region organization vice president, will present the award to Goodstein. Cost is $25. RSVP immediately to Joan Blumberg at (727) 771-7088.

Author speaks: Guest speaker Ernest Drucker will address the Clearwater Chapter of Hadassah on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 11:30 a.m. at Temple B’nai Israel, 1685 S. Belcher Road, Clearwater. Drucker is author of Ernst: Escaping the Horrors of the Nazi Occupation. Members are invited to bring a guest to the meeting.

Book Club chat: The North Pinellas Chapter of Hadassah’s Book Club will take a “poolside dip” with a discussion of Jane Austin in Boca: A Novel by Paula Marantz Cohen on Monday, Nov. 7 at 12:30 p.m. at Daddy’s Grill,


Mah jongg tournament: The Jewish War Veterans Post 409 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a mah jongg tournament on Friday, Oct. 21 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark Village, 2655 Nebraska Ave., Palm Harbor. There will be coffee in the morning and lunch at noon. Cost is $20 and participants are asked to bring their maj jongg sets. For more information, call 736-5102 or 726-5079.

Support Groups

Alzheimer’s caregivers: Menorah Manor’s Bresler Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Program offers a complimentary support group open to anyone in the community. This group meets in the Samson Nursing Center at Menorah Manor, 255 59th St. N., St. Petersburg, on the first Thursday of the month from 3:30-5 p.m. For more information, call Gwen Kaldenberg, MSW, director of the Bresler Program, at (727) 302- 3750.
