Cong. B’nai Israel St. Petersburg

Scholar-in-residence: Rabbi Andy Shugerman will serve as scholarin residence at Congregation B’nai Israel on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 at Shabbat services. Rabbi Shugerman is the Florida Regional Rabbinic Fellow from the Jewish Theological Seminary.

His topics will include “Abraham Joshua Heschel’s Perspective on the Spiritual Challenges of the Modern World,” “Journeying from Egypt to Sinai: Heschel’s Approach to Sefirat Haomer and Revelation” and “Are American Jews more like Pharaohs or Slaves of Pharaoh?”

Happy birthday, Israel: There will be a “Daven at the Kotel” Kabbalat Shabbat service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Mediterranean dinner on Friday, April 23.

“Daven at the Kotel” again on Saturday, April 24 at 9 a.m. An Israeli breakfast kiddush sponsored by the Sisterhood will follow services.

Celebrate Lag B’Omer: An afternoon of fun and games with hot dogs and all the fixin’s will provided by the Mitzvah Men’s Club at Lake Seminole Park, Shelter 8, 10015 Park Blvd. in Seminole on Sunday, May 2 from 12:30-3 p.m. in celebration of Lag B’Omer. RSVP to Sandy at 381-4900, ext. 209 or

Mother’s Day: The Mitzvah Men’s Club will offer a brunch with musical entertainment on Sunday, May 9 at 10 a.m. The brunch is free for women who RSVP. Cost is $15 for men, $7.50 for children; kids under 8 are free. For information, call the synagogue.

Annual meeting: The congregation will have its annual meeting on Wednesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Benjamin Social Hall. There will be an election and installation of officers and approval of tre 2010-11 budget.

Cholent Kiddush: Relax over a hot cholent lunch and study the Torah after 9 a.m. Shabbat morning services on Saturday, May 8.
