Author to discuss Nazi death camps’ liberators
The American soldiers who liberated the Nazi concentration camps and their reactions to that experience will be the focus Wenesday, March 31, as author Michael Hirsch discusses his new book, The Liberators: America’s Witnesses to the Holocaust.
The public is invited.
The discussion will be at 4 p.m. at the University of South Florida Library in Tampa.
Hirsch, a Vietnam combat veteran and author of three military books, interviewed more than 150 U.S. soldiers involved in liberating the concentration camps at the end of World War II.
These interviews, which provided the primary source material for his book, also will be featured in the university’s Concentration Camp Liberators Oral History Project.
The oral history project will be launched at the time of Hirsch’s presentation and will subsequently be available online at http://guides.lib.usf.edu/ohp.
The library is located at 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa.
The presentation is free, but reservations are recommended. To make a reservation, call (813) 974-1198.
